Based on this, the poor oil companies aren't even making a profit.



This all adds up to 100%.

I guess it's always been for altruistic motives. Maybe greed and profit doesn't really reflect the "True Cost" of fuel. Roll Eyes

Question: Does anyone feel bad for the poor people who bid the cost of fuel to $160+ dollars a barrel thus completely pushing us into this downward spiral? I love this exchange between Rusty and Towerguy...

Why do we, as a country, have such a short term memory on this?

Where are the congressional hearings into why the cost of fuel plummeted so quickly? What did we really bail out when we gave 700B to "The Street"? We bailed out "Greed" and because of this, we are now worse off! Why's that? Because Rusty's quote from above wasn't allowed to completely Play Out. Mad

Here is another link for you to refresh your memory... Read down for several posts. Now that fuel prices are falling, we are looking for the next Witch to burn. Have you realized yet, the above quotes from Rusty could be substituted for the housing market on Wall Greed Street?

Doesn't it make you think that we are chess pieces being moved around by a "mob like" mentality???

1)You had trucking companies going bankrupt because they couldn't afford the cost to run down the road anymore because the trucking company was "Locked" into a freight quote from when fuel was lower. They couldn't pay the "Flying J" bill.

I have a relative (by marriage) who does this... he buys fuel on the open market for his employer's "Fuel Oil Company" and because of this, he might be without a job. He bought fuel when it was too high, now that it is selling much lower, he has a lot of explaining to do. Ooops

I don't want to see anyone fail... but the lack of failure, or more correctly put... the lack of risks or accountability when you do fail, breeds Arrogance.

I'd like to see us walk away being a little "Gun Shy" but I suspect that this will be another short term memory for the masses too. Mad

I had a meeting with the manager of a local aero club a few weeks ago and he related his story about high fuel prices and associated contracts. He went to fill up (unleaded) at the contracted filling station where the price was $4.11. Although prices weren't as low then as they are now, he went up the hill to the base service station where he was able to fill up for $1.67. He was later chastised for not using the contracted filling station. Because of the cost of fuel over the past couple of years, the cost of getting a private pilots license has gone up dramatically and this particular aero club might not survive 2009 as a result - nobody can afford to fly. That manager should have gotten a pat on the back but, with a contract in place, he is required to fill up at the station with the obscene fuel prices. I'd bet money he is still going the cheaper route. My point, I'll bet this sort of thing is going on all over the country, just look at the Flying J article posted by Sky. Why can't they all renegotiate their contracts like the athletes and professional sports?

On top of all this, California passed a Diesel smog filter, for NOX and particulate matter, to be added to every heavy truck that is licensed in, or travels often in, the State! I don't know how they can demand out-of State requirements, BUT the green movement is gaining strength regardless of the impact on the economy! Cost of these filters is estimated at $15,000 each and IIRCC, must be added to the vehicle starting 2010 and be fully implemented by 2014.

RVs are exempted (phew!) as are light trucks.

This might add to the cost of everything we buy or at least anything purchased in that region. Any big rig that comes into California to drop a load, or pick up a load will be effected.
