Hello All,
I am new to this community so let me introduce myself! I am a manufacturing executive with 3 adult sons and wonderful wife of 37 years!! We live in Dayton Ohio and love to spend time on our hobby farm!!
Anyway, I recently inherited a 1998 Barth Monarch. I know nothing about this!! It starts and runs great but it will not move!! I dont know if its a problem with the brakes or ? When I engage the transmission, it tries to go both forward and in reverse. But it wont move. The coach has been sitting outside for the last 6 years without any attention so I am sure maintenance is needed. It has brand new tires, (unmounted) and brand new batteries. Looking for any decent offer!! Or at least some information on how to make it move! Smiler I can send pictures if interested! Please give me your email address.
Would make a nice project for someone!
Thanks for looking
Mike

First Question would have to be. You had it running. Did it air up? Where you able to push in the parking brake? Yellow knob usually to the right of the steering wheel.

Sorry I don’t know your level of knowledge.

Air up? Hmmmm..... I have no knowledge! I did push in the yellow button that I believe is the parking break.
How do I air up?
Thanks!

Should be automatic. If you were able to push in the yellow knob and it stayed in you should be fine. The brakes need air pressure to release. There are 2 gauges one rear air and one front air the both need to be over 100#. Both need to be at full pressure to release brakes.

Thank you Dana!
I did notice that there were two Low Air light indicators on. They are blue in color and located on the dash near the steering wheel. When I pushed the brake release knob in it felt kinda mushy, not a solid in / out.
Any advice on how to fix the low air?
Thanks!

How long did you let it run? It takes a bit to air up. Let it run a bit. Normally the air pump wouldn’t just stop from sitting? Walk around the coach and listen for the hiss of air leaking out. Might have blown a line? Or possibly air bag.

Unfortunately , ours would not air up when we went to buy it . It was working fine when parked , but the compressor stopped making air while sitting up for a few years . Most likely a stuck unloader valve . We had to install a new compressor to fix it .

Please give me a call at XXX-XXX-XXXX, John Potter. I live in Knoxville, Tn and am interested in your coach, also, may be able to help figure out how to fix the problem. Like Harold, cat and Sam said could be unloader valve, could be the air bags may be switched on dump or the windshield wipers may leak until it gets to around 100LBS,ask me how I know. After coach warms up for at least 5 minutes, but better for 10 minutes use cruise control to rev up engine no more than 1200RPS, Preferable 1000RPM. Also as one already said, while warming up the engine walk around coach and listen for hissing. Welcome to having an RV. Blessings, John Potter

PS If you can text me a picture of data tag or post it
here on forum so we all know what you have

Hi John,
Thank you for your interest! I will call you this evening! Also if you send me your email address I can forward pictures of the coach to you. (Not sure how to post the pics here)
Concerning the brakes, I ran the engine last night for about 20 mins and still saw Zero on the PSI gages. I could not hear any leaks as I walked around the coach, but I did hear an occasional clicking under the front hood (where the generator is located) it appears to be coming from a pneumatic valve. My thinking is that it is stuck. My plan is to remove it and try to clean it out tonight. One thing is I am not sure where the actual air compressor is located? Is it in the front of the coach or near the engine?
Thanks
Mike

The air compressor is gear driven bolted to the engine . On our Cummins, it has the power steering pump bolted to the back of the compressor . If you are not seeing any psi on the gauge then it is likely either the governor or the unloader valve is stuck in the compressor . Sometimes you can remove the governor and spray a lubricant into the compressor and free it up . Marvel Mystery oil does wonders in the air system for sticking valves . In our case we had to replace the compressor .

Harold
Thank you for the information!
Just where on the engine is the compressor located? If I open the rear doors is it on the right or left side? Can I get to it from the back or ?

Mike I believe you have the Cummins 8.3 with side radiator? Correct?

If so it should be to the right as you look in the back. Governor is also there. Below the injector pump.

Curiosity question? How long is your coach?
