Hello NC Barth, I've learned in my life that at anytime any individual who displays a Chris Craft Commander in his avatar, offers advice, best heed it. Smiler Six years ago I was in the same situation as you describe, except both my speedometer & the tachometer were faulty. After screwing around with both for awhile, I linked to the Speed Hut website, ordered a speedometer & matching tach & was able to chose my own design which harmonized with our dashboard. The speedometer was controlled by GPS & not a cable or wire. They even set the correct mileage at my request, and I couldn't be happier with their appearance & performance over the last five years. However, as I recall, it wasn't exactly a nickel/dime solution.

Good Luck,
John

Goodsign, good eye. Indeed it is a 1968 CC Commander35. It preceded, my discovery of this site researching a Barth offering around 2002 or 3. Dave Bowers provided great insight and I found a great deal of system similarities in these toys and in the family of owners.

I just sent them an email with the picture, let's see what they come up with.
If you don't mind me asking.
What did it cost for the speedo and the tach?

Hi Tim & NC Barth,
Tim, we've owned two Classic Chris Crafts, a wooden 1964 28' Sea Skiff & a 1980 fiberglass 26' Catalina. I have boxes full of magazines(Brass Bell, Classic Boat, etc) pertaining to Chris Craft & other vintage boats. In my opinion, the Commander Series like you own was the top of the line. I've always dreamed of having a Ray Hunt 30' commander(about as big as Lake Raystown in central PA could handle.)

NC Barth, as I recall each unit was approx. $ 200.00. but that was about 5 years ago, however, I'm sure they haven't gone down in price. Lastly, regarding our experience in boating, RV ing, & being around the racing community, an old mentor of mine said, "if you want to play, you're going to pay." That always echoes in my mind & has proven to be true.

Good Luck.
John
