OK, nobody got the correct answer so it's time to reveal the facts.

I inadvertently crushed my exhaust pipe extension when backing the trailer hard to starboard. This created a crude version of an exhaust brake and accounts for the whistling/squealing. Why the oil pressure dropped is a bit of a mystery, perhaps the backpressure or simply because it was struggling to rev up.

The pics are from after I pulled it back out enough to run right. It was completely crushed in before.

Looks like it might have gotten your ladder & body panel too.

Nope, It might be an illusion in the pic. The extension hit on the trailer A frame which is at that particular height. I knew I didn't jacknife the trailer, but I must have gottten close enough for the A frame to contact the extension. I hated that thing anyway and a lesson learned about modifying the excellent Barth design!

There's a reason they didn't extend the exhaust out.

The rest of your exhaust system must be in excellent shape to withstand that kind of a scrunch. That is some pretty thick steel to just flatten out like that.

I thought restricted exhaust - but didn't see how you would have lower oil psi as a result.

Brake - Break - Broken -

"BENT or CRUSHED"... now that would have been the better adjective. What matters is that you fixed it yourself.

On a road call, this would have been easy to spot mechanic

Good thing it's yours... if this was a rental, it probably would have been written up as a chargeable accident. D'oh

When I was reefing on it to bend it back out I was pleased at how robust the exhaust system seemed to be. It probably helped that the "Scrunch" was directly to the rear rather than a side swipe.

I didn't want to give it away in the beginning so I used cryptic adjectives. Break and brake were broke it and Jake kind of messages.

The two theories I have on the oil pressure are 1) increased back pressure may have lowered it slightly and 2) the lack of normal spool-up may have slowed it from reaching the norm that I'm used to seeing. My oil pressure gauge reads 10 lbs at idle to 80 lbs at cold start. Normal hot cruising puts it right around 60 lbs. It is very speed sensitive.

Another thought is that I was simply over-analyzing knowing I had an issue.

Boy, you are right on the ball Bill. I was wondering how I was going to remove the Bradford, NH banner, thanks.

I will miss looking at the comparative temps, that was fun. Hopefully, we will have a new northern spot soon, but we have also discussed Barthing the summer away next year sampling new locations. Another advantage Mr Wiggly (my Barth's new name), gives me.
