On the way back from FLA the lower cable broke. On my 86 Chev chassis that year the cruise control was an aftermarket ARA unit. The upper cable is a standard GM part but the lower cable was part of the ARA package. ARA is long gone. The cable is apparently not available. Any one know of a source? (The cruise module is mounted on the left frame rail near the trans and the cable is about 2 ft long.)
I will try to remove the twisted center drive cable if possible and reuse the outer sleeve. I hope to be able to find and run a new center cable. (Now I'm hoping the seized cable didn't trash the plastic gear in the trans...)

Can't help on the cable, but if need be a new audio vox cruise control is less the $100. Good luck.

I remember buying speedo cable cores at the auto parts. They had a selection of different drive ends to pick from and a crimp tool like this:

Thanks for the reply! It looks like that's the way I'll be going. Assuming I can get the center core out (it's wound into a ball) and the outer sleeve is OK then I think that will work.

Bones: You were totally right on. I got the old cable out, yanked out the core. Parts store had "cable repair kit" for 5 bucks and change. Cut, crimped and greased new inner cable. Rerouted cable with no kinks. Ready for road test tomorrow!
