The Sony backup monitor comes on like it should when you shift into reverse and you can also turn it on manually at any time. The problem is when it starts up the picture rolls and is unusable. After a few minutes it will stabilize and is very clear. I can not find a vertical or horizontal hold adjustment on the monitor. Anyone got any help?

That's usually a symptom of impending doom for the high-voltage section, and typically, that part is as expensive to replace as the whole thing.

However, I'd suggest excercising the 12V connector a few times to clean any crud that may have accumulated. I'd also do the same for the camera connections (front and rear) as there's the remote possibility the synch signal from the camera is hard for the monitor to pick up.

If that doesn't work, it's shopping time...

Rusty, I'm just getting over Christmas, today is the wife's birthday and February 1 is our anniversary. Think I can convince her she needs a new camera?

Well, there's a small possibility that it's the flyback transformer on the monitor, but that's only marginally less expensive...

I think the solution is that a new monitor would cement your mutual devotion for your upcoming anniversary....but then, I haven't ruled out the camera, either.

Maybe if you convey my heartfelt birthday wishes to Mrs. C., she'll be so overwhelmed, she'll demand a new backup system. Or not. Besides, you need some trophy commemorating LSU's new exalted status!

Call the guys at rvcams.com and he was super helpful. Told him what the system was doing and that I thought I needed a new monitor. He said nope, you need a new camera. Seems Sony has had trouble with the original camera and has come out with a replacement. Fits same bracket and cable. He had a camera by another manufacturer for about half the money, but since I just had the coach painted, I didn't want to get into a different bracket, etc. The camera came today, took about ten minutes to change it and everything works fine.
Thanks for the contact and help.

Here is a place I buy a lot of my cables from. They have VERY reasonable prices and they ship it out quickly as well.

Parts Express

Here is the link to the RCA Cables

They have 50ft cables for like $7!

I imagine that you would only have to run the video, or yellow, cable from the camera to the monitor, and they sell that as well, that is called a Composite Video Cable. The single composite video cable is obviously more expensive than the 2 red/white cables, but it is a better/thicker cable which I think would be better for you application.

Hope this helps

-Curtis
