My speedometer failed last week. It's an electric VDO with a needle for speed and LED read out for the odometer. The needle is locked at 15mph and nothing shows on the LED, which is still lit. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Rick

I drive exclusivly by the tach. When we first got the Regency I was always lookijng at the speedo to guage how to push it to pass or make a big hill at speed, now, with more experience, I find it's much better to go by the tach. I wouldn't be in a rush to fix if it's not convenient.

Seems like VDO has some issues with their speedometers. Mine has been acting up for the last year. The needle will swing around wildly with just the key on. The mileage indicator seems to record the mileage OK. After some time being on, it will settle down, slowly reading correctly as compared to the GPS readings. I have taken it to a shop that works on VDO and they say no parts are available for this model and want to sell me a new one but unfortunately the new ones have a red pointer. I have heard other reports that the new ones have problems similar to the ones reported by Rick.

I have taken the speedometer into my shop and powered it up without any input and it will jump around for many hours and then will settle down, I put it back into the Barth and it will work well for some time only to revert back to its jittery self after a week or so not being used. This winter I will attempt to find out what component is failing and report back.

Hi,

Thanks for the tips. I called a place in CA my local mechanic recommended. The vendor told me to check the connections. When I cleaned them up, it worked again.

I appreciate the replies.

Rick
