I understand about 2 mpg and in city buses about a 50K engine life.

In my opinion a very bad idea.

I did not see the cost of the CNG tank. These are 3000-3500 psi and not cheap. I think you would have to do a lot of driving (i.e. fleet) to recover the cost of modification.

I've researched the CNG conversions and the tank size and range is a problem....the only thing that would really work is a dual-fuel i.e. capable of running on a second fuel when your CNG runs out...I've looked at this several times over the last 15 years because we have had a refill station here in town for that long....the expense of conversion and the lack of dual-fuel conversions were what kept me from doing it...

The "pay back" for converting to lng is 18-24 months for an over the road rig. This is based on 100,000 mi/yr. I don't thin I'll be converting any time soon.
