1991 Regency 32' operational questions...

My wife and I just bought a '91 Regency, 32' and we've got a few operational questions. We got lots of documentation with the coach - thankfully - but it's things like the service manual for the engine, transmission, generator, and other items - but there's no operational manuals at all.

The gentleman we bought it from is super kind and offered to be just a phone call away to answer any questions, but rather than take too much advantage of that, I thought I'd just post here. Smiler

Most of the newer RVs have everything clearly labeled, but not so on this coach. The city water connection is labeled (it's on the outside of the coach, on the driver side), but I'm not overly sure where the fresh water tank fill is at, and if there is a bypass valve somewhere so the tank doesn't fill when city water is connected.

I'm also not completely sure where the gray and black dump valves are at. There's a gray handle on the outside of the coach, which is likely the gray dump valve, and there's another similar handle nearby inside one of the locked bays which I'm ass-u-ming is the black dump valve but I'd hate to be wrong.

The black tank also needs flushed so I'll need to figure out where the black tank flush connection is.

Good morning and Welcome!
Please provide the chassis that your coach is riding on along with the VIN. Secondly, get the generator model and serial numbers and the number of hours. Chassis are my specialty so I will see what I can help you with there.

It's a Gillig chassis, VIN is: 46GED0417L2042013. Cat 3208 engine, 300HP version. The coach has the 102" widebody option.

Those I don't have on hand at the moment; I'll add them later. I know it's a Kohler generator, Yanmar powered. Number of hours is "up there" of course. Wink

(I'll get the rest of the info (and data tag #) when I can.)

The data tag # is 9005-0146-32RDG-B4.

Generator is a Kohler 9CCO-RV and its engine is a Yanmar 3TN82E-RK. Completely forgot to pull the # of hours, but it's in the thousands of course.

Hi again!
Here's a couple of helpful hints, I am unfamiliar with the MCI chassis but many on this site are. I like the 3208 Cat and have worked on a few over the years, they use a native block meaning there are no cylinder sleeves. Check with the previous owner to make certain that the cooling system has been maintained. If he says no or is unsure, have it drained flushed and refill with Peak Final Charge or Shell Rotella ELC or equivalent. These are good for seven years and prevent cavitation erosion of the engine block.

Asd for the Kohler generator, you are fortunate to live in Indiana because Shaum Electric's home office is in Elkhart. I believe that Barth purchased the generators directly from them, they have great customer service and can supply you with any information on the GenSet that you may need.

Hopefully you can get more answers on house related questions soon. Don't be afraid to search previous posts as there is a treasure trove of information here.

That sounds bad, I think we'll just have that done anyway just for safety's sake. The engine runs strong and I'd like to keep it that way.

We have an appointment with a local place that works on generators - it doesn't run (but was running when we purchased it). It shut down on us during a vacuuming stint.

From reading through the manual though, I believe it's just the 8 amp fuse that protects the control board. Problem is, I can't easily access it, and it's a panel style fuse that appears to have a screw in cap that retains it, which seems to be missing. Which is odd, since it was running, but it exhibits the exact symptom that the manual states is caused by that fuse blowing. So we're just going to have it looked at.
