First off let me say I do not want Shields Up to give way to any political conversation with this link of the neighbor directly across the street from me. I do not use the social media Thumbs Down facebook or Thumbs Down twitter either, although, I am told this story is there also. Computer Thumbs Up Barthmobile Thumbs Up is my Social media. I just want to share the fact that I live across the street from the middle cheers class family. Salute Scott is self employed small business person, java hmm that made national news. Scott does own a SOB (Some-Other-Brand) Class C Holiday Rambler.

And to think right under CNN's nose (and across the street) was REAL NEWS - a man who was present at the Nativity.

I come from Pittsburgh. I worked in the mills. My aunts and uncles worked in the mills. We are apolitical. Whoever can get the job done gets my vote. The problem is that nobody has gotten the job done for a very long time. Just ask all my friends and relatives who watched as the mills shut down one after another. God help us if we have to fight another war because we don't have the capacity to make the tanks and planes and guns anymore.

I relate Jim.
I trust the "New Normal" is not tolerated. Our country needs laboring workers. And the impact to a child seeing a parent carrying a lunch pail is extremely impressionable.

Read somewhere where over half the current jobs in the US will be replaced by automation in the next 20 plus years.
And 65% of kids entering primary school today will be working in jobs that currently don't exist..

Old school thinking ( I'm one of those at times..) , unfortunately is on the way out..I saw this statement.."... We will never return to the days where a ... man could barely graduate high school and walk on to a factory floor at 18 and get a well-paying job for life..." sad but true.. or is it just a sign of the times..

The possible labor sec.guy said this re robots :

"They're always polite, they always upsell, they never take a vacation, they never show up late, there's never a slip-and-fall, or an age, sex, or race discrimination case," says Puzder of swapping employees for machines.

mmmmmm, auto-burger please...

Amen to that, Steve. There's nothing quite like watching your dad, hitch hiking to try to make a buck, because some greedy SOB sent his job to China or India or some other place we rebuilt in the first place.

We're teetering near the political edge of the ToS abyss. Please tread carefully and considerately.

My neighbor is just an ordinary middle class working individual, made the national news circuit.

It is hard to believe Scott and his family talking on national TV. The interview was even on the view, is what my wife told me. That is all. Has any of our members ever been interview for anything on national TV?
I am not trying to create or sneak in any political views here as stated in the beginning of my first post.

I don't see this as political since no one is espousing the merits of one group vs another. What I do see is people who are concerned about what has happened in our country over the last 50 years and they are expressing that concern. If that is something that we should not do on this site, then Bill should say that, and we will all go on to something else. I know people on all sides of the political spectrum who are very concerned about our country and there don't seem to be very many places where they can express that concern. Certainly not on social media.

My comment was to keep things on track - threads like this one can go off the rails quickly, although it hadn't yet.

"This site is dedicated to the restoration, preservation and history of the Barth Custom Coach"
I admittedly violated the mission statement with my lunch pail reference, and IMHO, many others have as well.
BTW, did anyone notice Army beat Navy?
Where to draw the line??????? Shields Up
Was in Baltimore to witness it firsthand.
Beautiful city, nicer than the "Burg".
