I like this Idea
You can call it the "Patriotic Retirement Plan":

There are about 40 million people over 50 in the work force. Pay them $1
million apiece severance for early retirement with the following
stipulations:

1) They MUST retire. Forty million job openings - Unemployment fixed.

2) They MUST buy a new AMERICAN Car. Forty million cars ordered - Auto
Industry fixed.

3) They MUST either buy a house or pay off their mortgage - Housing
Crisis fixed.

It can't get any easier than that!!

40 million people x 1 million U.S. dollars = 40 trillion U.S. dollars.

What is "just" 1 trillion dollars?
Well... it's a million million. It's a thousand billion. It's a one with 12 zeros.

Here is a trillion if it was represented in time:
number of seconds in a year = 60sec x 60min x 24hrs x 365days = there is 31,536,000 seconds in one year

Lets make the trillion represented in seconds... How long is that?

1,000,000,000,000 seconds (Trillion Seconds) divided by 31,536,000 (Seconds In A Year) = Answer 31,709yrs.

No, I did not account for the extra day in a leap year.

WIKI: Public Debt
The United States public debt is presented by the United States Treasury as two calculations: "Debt Held by the Public", defined as U.S. Treasury securities held by institutions outside the United States Government, and the "Gross Debt," which includes intra-government obligations (e.g., the Social Security Trust fund).[1]

As of November 7, 2010, the "Total Public Debt Outstanding" was approximately 95% of annual GDP, ($13.723 Trillion) with the constituent parts of the debt ("Debt held by the Public") being approximately 66% of GDP ($9.14 Trillion) and "Intergovernmental Debt" standing at 34% of GDP .[2][3] The United States has the 20th highest debt to GDP ratio of all nations, and has the fourth highest of the G8 Nations.

Don't like to be lazy with the facts...

60x60x24x365.25 = 31,557,600

1,000,000,000,000 (Trillion) divided by 31,557,600 (Seconds w/ Leap Year Curve) = 31,688yrs is the same as saying 1 trillion seconds.
