Today is the 236th Birthday of the U.S.Navy. Thank you to all who place their life on the line daily. We're truly grateful for your service.

The United States Navy traces its origins to the Continental Navy, which the Continental Congress established on 13 October 1775, by authorizing the procurement, fitting out, manning, and dispatch of two armed vessels to cruise in search of munitions ships supplying the British Army in America. The legislation also established a Naval Committee to supervise the work. All together, the Continental Navy numbered some fifty ships over the course of the war, with approximately twenty warships active at its maximum strength.

Thanks very much. My service covered 17% of Navy history. How many cumulative years can Barth owners account for?

34 years/14.4%. This past July I hit the second time I was a civilian longer than a swabbie.

Unlike Tom and Rusty , I was one of the grunts that had to work for a living. Aviation Machinist Mate 2nd Class. USN eight years 1962-1969. If it had been left up to Donna, I would still be serving today.

It was an honor and I was proud to serve. Thanks to all who have expressed their appreciation over the years and to those of you who called us "Baby Killers" and spit on us coming after Viet Nam, well you know who you are.

1945 to 1947 Pacific Fleet / Reinlisted 1947 to 1949 Atlantic Fleet, S/C Machinist Mate, All duty served on Heavy Cruisers, engine room & machine shop. Married in 1948, Carl Jr born in 1949, considered at retirement I would be an old man at 37. Now that I'm 84???? ....................

Glad to know this, I'm currently in Annapolis on a business trip. Sorta, a little bit, of a kinda, Navy town!

Got to add my wife Julie: 20 years including Iraq, Cdr.(Ret). Looks like we passed the total history of the Navy easily.

Served 4 years in the Navy. Two years on board the USS Canberra CAG-2(guided missle cruiser).

Those last two years were great as we went on a World The World good will tour.

So as they say -- join the Navy and see the world.

I served in the US Navy from 1958 -1962 active - 1966 reserve. Two Med cruises, Cuba Missile deal etc. E5 SOG2 Sonar (Ping jockey) USS Mitcher DL2
