If it makes new RVs more expensive, used ones might become more valuable.

Honestly, the only reason I'm not buying a new service truck is that the current technology is flawed... Who wants to buy something they know is junk? Remember, I chase these things and the current crop is nothing to crow about.

I don't want to see how the government mandate is going to force a big rig to all of a sudden get an additional 23% fuel savings.

If it was possible, you can bet that this would be a big selling point for those who could do it.

Caterpillar stopped producing over the road truck engine for OEMs in 2010 because of excessive gov meddling. Expect the trend to follow.

I agree with Bill NY, we bought a 2000 Kenworth and stashed it away for a few years before driving it, just to avoid buying a new tech diesel motor with all the problems of hotter temps, shorter lifespan and this DEF additions etc. Our mechanic also confirms more problems with the newer engines. You cannot just make a law and Zoooom - it happens. Otherwise I just sign a law that in 2012 all engines have to run on saltwater. Innovation takes time. And I got a problem with all this DEF containers getting tossed away everywhere, nothing but trash and more plastic trash.

Currently, the newest service truck I'm prepared to buy would be a late 2007 engine in an early 2008 truck. Anything else, from what I've seen, is problematic.

From talking to several customers, and listening to industry people, they are all saying the same thing.

If they could roll back the emission standards to 2008 levels, the last best stable platform, they'll be selling trucks like gangbusters. And it's not like the 2008 trucks were pigs.

Yes, the used truck market has picked up price wise for this reason. But, because less freight is on the road, it hasn't been that bad yet.

If you want to know more about this Cow Piss, then check it out here. DEF Info Oh yes, it really is Cow Piss

Public officials (rarely having practical backgrounds) have never grasped that there are three things that can't be altered by edict:

1. Economics

2. Physics

3. Chemistry

I have mixed feelings on this issue. I don't like government dictates, yet without the EPA we would have air like the Chinese. Remember they had to shut down all industry at least two weeks prior to the olympics to get the air quality breathable.

Every now and then I will get behind an older car and remember how much they stank. Even the ones in really good shape.

And because of all this we have cars that will go at least 200,000 miles with almost no problems.

It levels the playing field. Forces all Mfgers to search for solutions.

On the other hand mfgers leave the USA with their jobs and go overseas where they can pollute all they want. Cheaper than cleaning up their act.

I'm with Gary. We need to continue to clean up our air/environment and the standards should be those that the industry can attain. But just like everything else inside the Beltway, they don't know how to implement it. Just saying it has to be doesn't make it happen.
