After reading this, I would go outside and make a guard over the release, so dogs and grandchildren couldn't release it.

I had a dog lock me out of a car once, by putting a paw on the electric lock button. I tried to get her to unlock it by standing outside the window and trying to get her all excited so she would dance on the lock buttons. She got excited, all right, but would only dance on the "LOCK" button. Never the "UNLOCK".

I used to know a Barth couple whose dog moved the P30 shift lever out of park. Car rolled down a hill into a gas station. No serious damage, but coulda been a doozy.
