Things I learned (well, some I knew already but got a good reminder).
1) Rust never sleeps.
2) Rust must aid in the deterioration of aluminum.
3) Road worthy evidently has multiple meanings.
4) Stopping is more important than starting. (my dad taught me that at a young age)

After all that learning I am still Barthless.

consolation, the cost of finding out before the purchase is a lot less than what the cost would have been, sometimes it costs to learn

Truth be known, it ALWAYS costs something to truly learn. This guy will probably sell this motorhome to someone closer that will get it home and be able to work on it. It just wasn't ready for a 5 or 6 hour drive.

No. It should stay in one position unless the lever is moved. The lever is held in a notch by a spring.

Stuff happens hatt64 and you sound like you did your best. I'm sure that the brakeline blowout wasn't something you could have seen before hand. You sound honorable to have given him his money back after the sale, seeing that it was sold in "As Is Condition"

Just for clarification. Did you repair this issue yet and is it still for sale?
