breakaway emergency flasher
Hi All,
I need some ideas from you folks. About 4 years ago when I bought our breakaway, I noticed that our turn signals didn't work. So for the heck of it I tried the emergency flashers. The turn signal indicators on the dash lit up but wouldn't flash. I turned them off and tried the turn signals again and to my surprise they started working. After forgetting the problem and a few years later the turn signals failed again. I turned on the emergency flashers having the same results as last time,(on but not flashing). After shutting them off, the signals now work. So I replaced the flasher unit and now the signals work but nothing at all for the emergency flashers. Replaced the turn signal/em flasher switch and find no change. Directional signals work fine and nothing for the em flashers.
Any thoughts?
thanks
Kenny

Sounds like a ground issue. Try cleaning up your grounds a bit. (From owning a plastic British car) but ours does do similar things on occassion so I'm getting the popcorn out and hoping you solve my issue for me. Smiler

There are separate units for the turn signals and emergency flashers. If you upgraded to LEDs, you'll need electronic flashers.

I have the stock lights in it. I have cleaned all the grounds that I can find. In the dash, also in the compartment in the drivers front compartment, and also on the firewall above the generator. I am running out of places to look.

Pull the flasher units and check the contacts.

I brought in a mechanic today, What a surprise, took him 10 minutes to figure it out. It was the flasher. I had replaced it but the problem was, my flashers are mislabeled. The one that says turn signal flasher is actually my emergency flashers and vise versa.
