TINY HOLE IN UPPER POWER STEERING CANISTER
THE CANISTER IS ABOUT 4 IN DEEP ,IT IS THE RESOVOIR THAT YOU ADD YOUR POWER STEERING FLUID TO, I HAVE A PIN HOLE ABOUT A INCH FROM THE TOP, DOESNT AFFECT FLUID LEVEL , BUT WAS WONDERING IF IT NEEDED TO BE A CLOSED SYSTEM, THANKS Bob

It is not a closed system, except it is capped to keep junk from getting into the brake fluid. Your leak could allow water to get in, not a good idea, but it shouldn't otherwise be a problem as long as you don't fill it enough for fluid to leak out.

Your canister has obviously seen better days, & the brazed connection at the bottom looks like a repair, not the result of manufacture.

The best solution would be to replace the canister. It's probably a generic item not manufactured specifically for this installation. Patching the hole is a plausible solution, certainly cheaper than replacement.

I can't guess the cause of the pinhole. Could be rust, poor welding/brazing, whatever. But it is possible, even likely, that there could be other pinholes waiting to occur.

I would either slosh it or replace it.

oops. Sorry. Sloshing is coating a container with a sealant by sloshing it around the inside. There are a number of products on the market, sold at motorcycle shops, restorer supplies and aircraft maintenance places. I use 3M EC-776.
