Dave--- mine are gas filled cyclinders --- replacements are from NAPA . these are in all overhead cabinets to hold door up when you are in them .will check to see if there spring type any place . but beleive the hinge locks on itself in the open and folds together with mild pressure to close . fred

Dave,

I have basically 2 types of lifts on my cabinets. On the smaller doors, I have the ones that look like the 2nd from the right side in your picture. The rest of them are larger, black and spring/gas loaded as near as I can tell. I have found that some RV suppliers and Web based suppliers have both kinds but the bigger ones are really expensive. I need to replace a few and would be interested in a better source. I have installed a solid brass "catch" on all the cabinets to help hold them shut and that has been pretty successfull but doesn't help hold the door up when you want to get into it. The Brass catch has double spring loaded steel balls that snap over a prong that you mount on the door. They are available from any good woodworker supply place and are around $3 each.

I replaced all 14 of those hyd. lifts bought from campers world. They did not lift all the way to the ceiling and I'm afraid someone may force them farther and damage the woodwork. I wished I would of spent more time researching cause I beleive I could of gotten the right ones. Mine are called Spring Lifts (.com)
