So here is my question. Where should the tailpipe be located. I am getting ready to replace a bit of the exhaust tubing and am wondering if the current location is good. My exhaust goes all the way to the back like a normal car, but I have never seen any other motor home like that. Most stick out the sides. I have a 1977 24' with a bustle. Chevy 454 with duals all the way back. I am considering going in front of the rear tires. Thoughts?

My thoughts are that the tailpipe ahead of the rear wheels entails the risk of hot exhaust gas on the tires. My truck's tailpipe is on the side, behind the rear axle.

The heat concerns me little, yet I've seen it on a couple of rigs. Behind the wheels are the propane tank on one side and the generator on the other.

Mary Ray, the best answer I can give you is I don't know. I would love to since last time was our maiden voyage and we had such a good time. We leave on our road trip the first week of June. That kind of makes us crunched for time. Might just do Saturday night again. We'll see.

My exhaust system was originally duals all the way to the rear. After headers were first installed they were combined into single exhaust which exits as a single 3" pipe in front of the left drive wheels. No problems with heat so far.

You can just see the pipe here:

Hope to see you at Milford! Thumbs Up

You will not have any problems with exhaust exiting in front of the axle. Make sure the tailpipe sticks out at least 1 1/2" past the wall and DO NOT USE A TURN DOWN!
