Frank StrongSlack in Spartan steering column
I have a 94 Regency with the Spartan Mountain Master chassis with the tilt/telescope steering column. I am trying to isolate and cure an annoying slack which appears to be in the steering column --- not in the chassis linkage. I can hold the ujoint at the base of the column and can feel the play but cannot tell for sure if it is in the column. I cannot see any lose fittings any where else in the steering linkage. Is this a common problem with the Spartan chassis and is there a fix or kit which I can handle? I have contacted Spartan with the same question but have not received any response.
Help, help!!!

RustyYou'll need an assistant to rock the wheel while checking for play in the various U-joints and couplings.
That said, I had the same issue in my '87 E350 LWB van, and it turned out to be steering wheel bearings...(I got it from my then brother-in-law, and frankly, he and his kids could wear out an anchor...)

Frank StrongYou may right about the bearings. I have since discovered that the problem is indeed in the column and not in the ujoints or linkage. I have worked with Spartan some but so far they have not been able to provide any help on the column -- just adjustment procedures for the sector.
Does anyone have any experiance working on the the tilt/telescope steering column? I have no idea where to start.
Again - help, help!!

RustyThe only help I can be is that the horn button pries off (the metal ring around the rubber detaches from the hub). I used the 3-jaw puller on the outside of the steering wheel hub to remove the steering wheel.
That's as far as I had to go...
