Cruise Control
I have a cruise control that is intermittent on my 94 Breakaway w/230 hp Cummins on a Spartan chassis. On a recent trip to Myrtle Beach the system stopped working and would not engage. Over a 500 mile return trip it only engaged once for a few miles. My book has schematics for a Bendix system (appears to be for diesel) as well as a Dana system (appears to be for gas engines). My system does not appear to match either schematic since it contains a vacuum accumulator. This leads me to believe that there must be a vacuum pump. Does anyone have knowledge and/or schematics of this system? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

When I had problems with mine it was in the switch in the turn signal.

Stu, we have a 93 with a 230...Had the same problem with our cruise control do the same thing you are talking about..I think you will find out that parts are no longer available for your unit..We had to go to an Electronic Cruise Control System...Phone 800-433-1740 for a dealer near you..It took just a couple hours to install this system, and it works on your rig.

I've had experience repaiting cruise on cars and most of the time on intermitent troubles, the cause can be traced to a faulty or intermitent ground.

Stu,
We have a 1985 Regency with the Detroit engine. I had problems with my cruise control shutting off and having a hard time getting it to come back on. I then noticed this happen when turning on my headlights or using the turn signals to change lanes. My mechanic stated I had an electronic cruise unit and it was not getting the proper volts/amps to maintain operation. Hope this helps you.

Thanks everyone for the ideas. I'll check the ground connections as well as the voltage to the system. This morning on a short trip, the system worked OK. Maybe the rig needs more exercise!
