My gas water heater works fine but I want to know if this is normal. When I turn it on, the red LED lights up as the electronic ignition fires and then goes out. The heater continues to run and operate normal. The LED lights for a few seconds only when the burner fires up.

Mine turns red until the fire ignites, then goes out. If the fire fails to light it will begin flashing red. The light then turns green when the water reaches the correct temperature.

My light never turns green. I've never seen it flash either but it runs well. At least I'll know what the flash is. Thanks Nick.

Ours is red until burner is lit, then green ( I presume to indicate heater is on and functioning) I have to listen to hear whether the heater is still coming up to temp.
