Brakes not grabbing tight
We have a 1995 Barth 31', with Spartan Chassis. On the last two outings, the brakes seem to require more distance and more pedal pressure to stop the rig. It has 55,000 miles. Air pressure gages show approx. 90-110 lbs in both tanks. Calipers release OK.

I do not have any brake maintenance info. and wonder if this is just the normal time to change pads or something. The brakes don't "grab" like they used to. If it's a pad change..is that something an owner can do?

Any ideas/suggestions much appreciated.

Regards..Marty

I don't profess to be any kind of an expert on air brakes, but have recently competed an air brake endorsment course. Sounds to me like you have some adjustment problems or even some siezed linkage. The following link is from a RV page and tells you how to do a pre-trip check.

The next link I found tells you about the operation and maintance of air brakes. It requires Adobe Acrobat to open the file.

I truly believe that anyone that operates these big rigs should be required to take a course.

If you have to punch these address's into your tool bar those spaces are actually underscores, but the underline blots it out.
