can anyone please tell me the part number for the alternator on a cummins 5.9 breakaway 1993 thanks, darryl

Are you dead on the road?

Can you run on the generator instead? It should be able to run the electrical stuff in the coach and I think you can tie the battery sets together with the AUX switch?

This might get you on the road and maybe find an alternator at your leisure. Good luck.

It's a delco (mine is). Remove it and take it to any shop. They can be repaired or replaced easily.

alternator siezed up & snapped the fan belt on our way to florida. We don't pull a car along so we were stranded. I called a mobile truck repair co. The mechanic spent 4 hours & drove 50 plus miles trying to find an alternator. Found one in Louisville Ky.( you do not want to know what that cost !). The mechanic was a nice guy & let me purchase the alternator myself instead of billing it through the company, saving me the mark up. About an hour or so down the road I realize the voltage is dropping. Bad rebuilt alternator! Since this is no fault of the mechanic I think all I can demand in refund is the $75 cost of the part. But to even get that I would need to remove the bad part. return it to Louisville. Find another alternator and install it, all on easter weekend . I think I will just fire up the generator, plug in the charger & connect it up to the battries.

By the time I got to Florida I replaced both alternator and distributor, both only a year old! wack

My only good news is I had spares with me. mechanic

Good luck, just run your gennie and get another alternator when convenient. Good to hear you're on the road.

- Lower radiator hose
- Temp and oil senders
- Master cylinder
- Alternator
- A/C Compressor
- Power steering pump
- Tensioner arm & pulley
- Fuel pump
- Filters - Air, fuel, oil

I've done a lot of star parties, which sometimes involves remote dry camping. I've also had 3 A/C compressor failures, 2 power steering pump failures (both new - <14 mos old), and 2 parking brake actuator failures.

The only limitation on an alternator is the mounting and the size of the pulley (if you want to use the same belts as on the original). You do not have to buy any special brand or amperage so you could shop online for a Leece Neville, Delco etc and use any amps (130 is a good size). There are vast differences in the number and types of internal bearings and the sizes of windings. On my diesel the Leece Neville uses roller bearings instead of ball bearings and is built like a tank. Have had it lose some capacity and begin to run hotter but in the now 20 years there have been only two on the coach and the new one (not rebuilt) is a 200 amp and cost $350, not including the install. IMHO thats not a bad investment in a critical part of travelling with confidence.

I recently had the same thing happen to "THE TOY". Tensioner pulley was the culpret. Got rid of the 130 amp, replaced it with a 180 amp. all is good now. $$$........................

with all this,2 good sized dogs and a truck load of star gazing gear it is no wonder Rusty has only room enough for 1 change of skivvies, a bottle of good booze and a can of beans. ROTFLMAO
