For those of us with the late 1980s 454 in the Chevy chassis, the belts arrangement is always a source of "fun".

First to access the scene, the front cross member has to come off the frame.

The power steering pump clamping bolt has a head that seems arranged for use with a smaller size pulley. It is not possible to get a socket over the bolt. The bolt also has an interface built in it for an allen wrench to access, but there is little clearance, and the pulley also makes it tough to get a socket with a hex bit going. Unless you have a flexible handle socket wrench, your hand will be in the area of the fan blades. Good luck with that.

In other cases, when a bolt is tight, I would take a box end of a wrench and get it over the bolt, and "hook up" another wrench to the claw end of the wrench and get double the torque. But in this case the clearance on the bolt head to the pulley is too small.

I've always given it the old college try and was never satisfied that I was getting this tightened well.

And BINGO! The idea dawned on me, take a bolt and a nut that are 3/4", same as the 3/4" of the bolt holding the power steering pump tight. Weld that nut and bolt together. Now get the claw of a 3/4" wrench on that power steering pump bolt, put the nut/bolt in to the box end of that wrench, and get another 3/4" wrench on the nut/bolt, and you've got double the torque, and an ability to change the angle of the two wrenches to work around the obstacles.

I wish I thought of this 17 years ago! Or did I see someone else with this idea? I really don't know.
