I don't know if this has been covered in previous posts but have not located it so apologize if duplicating. I need new starting batteries for my 8.3L Cummins and would appreciate suggestions for "value" as well as proper application. It currently has two Deep Cycle Marine batteries, and I believe they are group 31, which are expensive. My bigger concern are they the correct type of battery for getting the large initial "jolt" to start a diesel? Any other suggestions?

Typically the deep cycle is for the house batteries while the starting circuit uses regular truck type batteries.

Your local International dealer is running a special on the EXIDE Batteries.

Group 31 are normally starting batteries. That is what I use. They are taking over for the 8Ds in class 8 highway trucks also.

Price is ok at Sams Club or Costco.

Check out Deka Batteries if they are available in your area. GREAT battery. I purchased a pair of the commercial grade 31 series for my starting batteries. You do not need nor want to purchase deep cycle batteries for chassis batteries. Don't let someone talk you into dual purpose batteries for chassis batteries either. Both of them are more money and not what you need for this application.

When we had our bus and also for the semi we found a good deal on batteries at "Tractor Supply", their store brand is an "undercover" Exide battery. Use the CCA to compare prices.
