Hello all,I started to check out the Barth today to get ready for Indy,checked the oil in the Genset ,when I opened up the fill /check port it started gushing out I'm sure it filled with gasoline, is there supposed to be a check valve in the pump? Has anyone encountered this before, if its not one thing it's another. I'm glad my Dad drilled into me the importance of checking the oil before you start a motor that's been sitting for a wile. Things could of gotten ugly.

No help with the genset but you mentioned Indy. Are you going to the 500?

If the Genset has a leaky float needle gas will flood the carb. work its way into the combustion chamber and leak past the rings and dilute the oil in the crankcase.
Methanol in the fuel will work on the brass needle seat leaving a dull finish/ micro pitting and allowing the gas to leak past the seal.
To fix, remove the carb, float and needle. Get a Qtip with some fine lapping compound and a air drill and polish the brass seat.
Also install a fuel shut off valve to the gen. and cut the fuel supply when in storage.

The early Honda generators were known for this, especially when being transported in a shaky old work truck. We learned quickly to shut off the gas when not in use. The above description is exactly what we were told.

That's what a I figured, I guss the best way out is to install a shut off valve.
