REGLOVER
EXHAUST MANIFOLD
Hi again Guys

I replaced the exhaust man gasket on the right side, 454chevy. My manual says to remove the the outer or end bolts first then the rest of them which I did, now for the new installation it just says to reverse the removal procedure tork to 20 ft lbs in the proper sequence I can't find what the tork sequence are. There are 8 bolts total.

Thanks again Ralph

Ralph, I just happen to have my 95 shop manual handy, and it says 40 ft lbs for the 7.4 (454), but does not give a sequence. I would imagine start at the center and work outwards. You should drill the holes to 1/2 inch and use hardened washers with anti seize on the threads and under the washer. Also cut slots between the ports. Later today, I will check my 84 manual and post if they have any sequence information.

I just checked my 84 shop manual, and it says 20 ft lbs with no sequence, either. The 95 and 84 manifolds look the same, so go figure. I use Thorleys.

everything i have ever heard is that one should thighten in steps of approx 10lbs. i know in race cars working out works, but if the surface plate is not one pcs it doesn't make that as important. going slow is a must. dale
