Jim and Terefan clutch alignment
Just read in the svc manual for gmc light duty trucks about aligning the fan clutch to the water pump. I see the marks on the old one but I'm putting on a different fan clutch Hayden I think. The only thing I was able to "line up" with was the little coil. I put the new clutch on top of the old one made sure the coils were lined up & marked the new one. Then I'm not sure about "lining up" to the water pump.
Is it just saying line up one hole to the other or is there something I can't see or comprehend.

RustyI'm not sure what the book means; in most installations the clutch is ahead of the fan which is ahead of the pulley. There is no alignment involved.

Bill N.Y.I've never had to "Time" (or align) a fan clutch before.

Mogan DavidIt is about the V belt running straight along the grooves of the water pump and the fan and air pump and whatever else needs to be "aligned".
my bad
looked at the pdf after posting. The yellow mark does not serve to align the pulley grooves.

RustyThe pulley should be remounted exactly where it was before: On the water pump shaft flange,

Jim and TereI did not see & wasn't looking for a mark on the new water pump pulley mount. However, I did look @ the old water pump & sure enough there was a mark. I did not see any marks inside the water pump pulley but then again I wasn't looking either. I did however clean out the rust & painted it soooooo, I'm hoping the mark will be on outside of pulley not inside. Wonder why the marks on the fan clutch are there? Guess we'll find out when we put it all back together & drive it for a while.
