Engine swap question...
How does one go about switching an engine in a Barth.

Does the motor come out the doghouse or the bottom?

I Don't have a specific problem, just curious. It looks like it would be a nightmare regardless.

You can take it out the top two ways.

To take it out the top without an engine hoist, you must remove the trans, flywheel, heads, and all accessories. Then you can raise it from underneath until you can muscle it on to a skid on the floor of the coach and out the door. Use Crisco to grease the skid. You will need to build a fixture to raise it from inderneath. Or you can build a tripod or two A-frames and a beam inside. It will be a bit lighter if you roll it over and remove the crank in the coach. You will need three strong backs for this method.

I have heard of people having an engine hoist the right dimension and sticking it through the side window hole, but haven't seen it myself. It should be good if you have the right hoist. It would have to have really long base legs and arm, and a higher arm pivot. My driveway is too narrow, so I didn't re-engineer my hoist.

And, I have a bad back, so I dropped mine out the bottom. This necessitates removing the front suspension on its crossmember. This is six or so bolts on each side. Plus the brake lines and steering arm connections. This is not difficult. The engine can be lowered from within by a threaded rod or from underneath by a floor jack. When you get ready to do it, e mail me. I have a file for anyone who wants it on the underneath method. I did it by myself except for my wife turning the nut on the threaded rod inside the coach.
