<Schrimsher79barth>1979 P30 Alternator Question
Hello All, I need to replace the alternator on my 79 Barth 454. I notice that there are a few options that I am not familiar with. Ex. w/ 55, 63 Amp Alternator and w/ 37, 42 Amp Alternator. Can someone explain the w/55 and w/37 option? And wouldn't I always want the higher amp rating? Which one of these would you recommend?

BootdudeMike, I have a 1980 with a 454. When I purchased it it had a 65 amp didn't last long at all. I replaced it with a rebuilt from NAPA put it in and it burned up right off the bat. Went back and got a 2nd one this one lasted for about 3 weeks. I've jumped up to a 78 amp which seems to do the job. But when the time comes I'll put in 100 amp or better. Seems even a lot of the SUV have 110 alt with all the power stuff on them now. From everything I'm reading these Coachs need more power for running everything and charging at the same time. You can find a shop locally that rebuild yours. They can up the amps on it. It's best if you find a shop thats familar with the needs of a Coach. As for the multi numbers on your current model I'm not sure what that means. Best of luck Bootdude

<Schrimsher79barth>Hey Guy,
THANKS for the advice and I will begin looking around today for a shop to rebuild my current unit. It still charges fine but the bearing is starting to squeal. Have a great day and thanks again!
