Cat 3208 vs. Cummins 8.3 Turbo
I think the 3208 Cat is a 2 stroke while the Cummins 8.3 is a 4 stroke. The torque is higher with the 8.3. If my memory serves me the torque of a 3208t is about 715 and the 8.3 is 950. The exact figures may not be correct, but I think they are fairly close. A non turbo 3208 would be less. I looked at a 3208t and was surprised at how low the torque was. It made it at a higher rpm but that may be due to the V configuration of the engine.

Both engines are 4 strokes. The difference between them is V configuration 8 cylinder and an Inline 6 cylinder respectively. Both engines use a HP Injection Pump with individual HP fuel lines to each cylinder.

3208 is a four stroke. Some are non-turbo so have a real problem in the high western hills.

The two strokes were made by Detroit.

It comes from Spartan. They offered the chassis with side, rear and front rads. The docs we got with our Barth also say you had a choice of Cummins 8.3, Cat 3208 or DD 8.2 engines.

Our Regency has the roll-out as well as the front radiator.
I have four electric fans that I can turn on manually.
After operating at highway speed for a length of time and then slowing down to lower city speed the transmission temp will increase. Operating range on this tranny is 170-200 degrees and it will be near the 200 degree mark after I have slowed down, if I flip on the fans it cools down to about 180 within a couple minutes. Don, this may explain why your automatic fans are kicking in when you stop, because of the transmission temps (my auto sensors stopped working so I wired mine manually, which I prefer) I have never noticed an increase in engine temp when I slow down, only transmission.

Ditto to Steve WI's post.

Same engine, roll-out, front Rad., fans are manual [came that way] and my engine temp always runs low, but have the same thing happen with my tranny ...temp. rises rapidly with lower driving speeds following highway driving.

I wonder if there are ways to get that tranny to cool-down a bit?

Medic37 & Steve WI, I found reading about your transmission temp to be of timely interest. We just drove about 2000 miles and I noticed for the first time the same type occurrence. After driving at highway speeds, when I slowed down the Trans Temp would go up about 15 degrees. Both water temp and trans temp normally run about 170-180. When slowing down the trans temp would move up to about 200. It would go back down as soon as I returned to highway speed. Coach is a 32 foot 1993 Regency, 3208 300HP, Allison 4 speed, Side Radiator, Hydraulic fan, no additional fans.

If you have the 600 series Allison you have a lockup torque converter. At lower speed it runs unlocked and will generate lots more heat. Speed up and the converter locks up and temps go down.
