algae
Was getting our Barth ready to leave for the winter by changing oil and filters. I found the first fuel filter nearly plugged with a green slimy mess. Checked with a friend who does diesel service and found out that there is an algae that grows in diesel fuel and can be a real problem. The local NAPA store sold me a product to kill it but my friend told me to be prepared for several plugged fuel filters from dead algae. We are taking three spare filters and everything need to change them with us. So friends it might be a good idea t o check your tanks and happy Barthing.

The best approach is prevention, and this can be started most easily by topping off the tank before parking. This minimizes condensation; the algae grow at the fuel-water interface.

Occasional doses of algaecide finish the job.

In either case the idea is quite staggering.
