I have checked the posts on this site, but didn't see anything on my specific problem. My 6.5 kw Emerald III ('88) began intermittantly not starting this summer. When it would start, it ran fine and never shut down until I told it to. I found an old kinked spot in the fuel line inside the generator compartment... the obvious problem! I replaced that section of fuel line, but that didn't do it. The generator would try to run, but it seemed like it was fuel starved. I replaced the fuel pump without testing the current one ($30 Facet @ Pep Boys). Didn't help. The original carburetor internals showed some rust and varnish stains. Replaced it with new instead of trying to rebuild. Nothing. It wants to run, but seems to shut itself down. It started to get dark out while I was cranking the unit after replacing the carb and I noticed the coil arcing to the negative lead. Replaced the cracked coil and plug wires. Nothing changed. I even blew out the fuel line back to the tank before I verified that the new fuel pump is indeed working. I can't help but think that it's something simple... a sensor or switch??? Any troubleshooting advice would be greatly appreciated.

Try cranking with a rubber hose drawing from a gas can. My gas pickup will not draw fuel past 1/8 tank. Also, check your spark at the plug. Pull a plug and ground it on some unpainted part of the engine.

Not sure if this carb has screws for adjusting fuel and air but if it does open all screws about 2 turns and try starting. Note exactly how many turns or half turns you opened.
These are fuel sippers and little particles can and will plug the orifices. Opening the screws can give you the flow needed to get them going again.
Guess how I know this?
