Electrical System and Isolator
During the last two days, we have been working inside our coach ('92 Breakaway 30')while plugged into shore power with most lights on. Late on the second day, we noticed dimming of the 12v lights, and a check by voltmeter of the relatively new house batteries displayed a reading of 8.3v rather than the normal 12.7. Searching for a cause, I noticed the converter switch was off, so turned it on and activated the quick-charge function. Thinking I should just unplug the shore power and go for a ride (bright sunny day) and let the alternator charge the house batteries, I attempted to crank the engine and got no response. Upon checking, the engine batteries showed 9.3v. Inasmuch as the isolator is to prevent such a drain on the engine batteries, I've assumed I have a faulty isolator. Is this the right conclusion, or is there more to this problem that I should know about? Would appreciate your advice.
