Dip stick problem
I received this email from a fellow Barth owner. I told him to check back here to see if anyone can help him out

4/18/03

Hello Dave,

I have my 84 Barth at a local Chevy truck place. It is there to have a
rusted out dip stick tube replaced. However,
the old dip stick broke off in a new tube so now they have a new tube
and new stick and are having trouble getting
both to fit where the old were. Have you or any other Barth owner run
into this before? Have you ano others
ever contacted General Motors before and have a phone number and/or
email address for them? Any ideas/help
you all can provide will be greatly appreciated. George

Hard to guess without seeing it, but here goes:
Unfortunately, to get a really good look at this and have room to work, the right exhaust manifold may have to be removed. PB Blaster really helps. The oil pan has a short tube spot welded to it, and the dipstick tube fits inside it, with an O ring to seal it. It could be possible that part of the old dipstick tube is left inside the pan tube. A sharp punch driven between the old and new tube should create room to grip it an pull it out.

I do not like the super long dipstick that Barth installed on some coaches. the factory Chevy set up is best, although it does require opening the doghouse. I have hinged the front of my doghouse lid so it is just a simple matter of tilting it up.

While the right manifold is removed, drill the bolt holes oversize and cut slots between the ports and have the manifold resurfaced. That will save you a little trouble down the road.

Please report back.

Email from George Black
Gentlemen, I'm pleased to report the subject news. I thank you both
very much for your help. Once the dust
settled in this little episode, your being there ready to help was the
biggest help. Am sending in check to join the
Rangers and a slight possibility exists for meeting you guys in person
in Minnesota this coming June. Geo. Black
