+Propane Generator
To start my genny I usually hit the start switch two or three times before it fires up, let it purr for a few minutes, then turn on the roof air units. This morning I depressed the start switch once (the green light came on), the genny turned over but all additional attemps to start was dead silence but the green light would come on. What am I looking for and where is it??

Hi,

You get nothing when you hit the switch? Got a volt meter? Have someone hit the switch while you see if you have voltage at the starter. Could be just a corroded terminal or it cold be the starter. Good luck!

Can you try to start from the remote start at the generator. That would check out the parts other than the dash start switch.

Carl, check the make of your genset; to my knowledge, Dometic has never marketed any. More likely is a Kohler,

They did. I think someone else actually made them, or at least the engine (Daihatsu). I have seen them on other Breakaways. There is a place in Chino, CA (I think) that has parts and schematics. They bought up the remaining parts when Dometic ceased production.

Yup, it is a Dometic same as the one I have! It is the Kwyatt 7.0 model has a three cylinder Daihatsu engine, and yes Schalm in Chino is the place for parts and stuff. Bob Schalm is a great guy, very helpful.

I had problems with mine not wanting to start and when it did it may run for a few minutes, an hour or more but would always shut down intermittently! I failed trouble-shooting 101 on this it was the main power switch located on the front control panel of the generator.

The switch evidently got a bit on moisture in it and caused the failure to start or intermittent shutdown. Try to rapidly move the switch up and down many times, after this try to restart, if it does, there is your problem. I chaged out the swiutch but after taking the switch apart, there wasn't much corrosion and I could have probably done that little rapid on/off routine and that would keep the contacts clean.

Found the picture on my website, the switch I am referring to is the toggle switch labeled "Main Switch" just below the two fuses on the right side of the control panel, very bottom of my picture.

If that doesn't clear the problem, more trouble shooting will be necessary.

Might also check those two fuses, if either one of those are blown, the generator will not start. I had a fuse blow when I was adjusting the leveling jacks with the generator running.

Oil and coolant level OK, there are sensors that will prevent starting if they are low.

All is well in Barthville.....The problem was the Main switch. When the genny tried to start then quit all together I tried the Main switch. It was a gentle toggle, but this morning I worked it over enough to clean up the inner contacts. And Wala,as Ed said, she fired right up. Thank you Ed and others...........
