Trik-L-Start
I noticed lately that my chassis batteries are losing their charge after a few weeks of being parked. The Barth is on shore power but as we know only the coach batteries are getting charged.

I have an Intellitec Diesel Battery Isolator P/N 00-00265-000 installed that picks up the Aux-Start relay when the engine is running and the alternator output is above 13.3 V. This effectively ties both battery banks together and therefore charges both.

This system does not work if the ignition is off so when parked the Aux-Start relay is dropped out. Also, when parked I put the BD0 switch in "store" to isolate the coach batteries from the system. When on shore power the house systems are powered by the converter, I think.

I am considering a Trik-L-Start device to maintain the charge of the chassis batteries. I would wire it between the two power posts of the Aux Start relay and when the coach bank has a higher voltage than does the chassis bank this device will trickle charge the chassis bank to maintain it. When the Aux Start relay is picked up and the voltages are equal across it the Trik-L-Start would effectively not be in the picture.

Has anyone done this? Is there a hole in my logic somewhere that makes this a bad idea?

I realize that I can always use the momentary Aux Start switch on the dash to couple the two banks together but it is possible that the chassis battery could get pretty low and the two together might not be a good solution. Diesel starters can draw some serious amperage especially if it is cold.

I would really like to hear from anyone who has used the Trik-L-Start.

Considered the TLS, but got this instead:
Schumacher SC-1200A/CA SpeedCharge 3/6/12 Amp Charger/Maintainer/Tester

Microprocessor controlled with digital display.

Checked many places, but could not come close to Amazon price.

This is an update for those who might be interested in the Coach/Chassis battery charger install.

I decided to go ahead with the Trik-L-Start and it was a very simple installation done while I had all of the batteries disconnected doing some modifications to the DC terminal boards and relays. I mounted the Trik-L-Start just above the Aux Start relay in the engine compartment near the chassis battery bank. One wire to the chassis battery post and one to the coach battery post and one to ground. (Posts are the ones on the Aux Start relay.)

Three LEDs indicate the state of the charger and when the system is plugged into shore power it indicates "charging". The voltage of the chassis batteries was about 12.0 V and now a couple of days later it is around 13.5 V. As the voltages equalize the device will shift to "maintaining". So, it looks as if the thing does what I wanted it to do. If I find out otherwise I will let you know.
