bill hA chevy starter sometimes needs shims to keep it properly spaced from the ring gear.
The bolts need to have knurled shanks. Plain bolts will not properly locate the starter.
Why do you think it is heat related?

SLOPEMASTERYou may need a new flex plate(holds starter ring gear and is bolted to engine crank)the way a engine is balanced it tends to stop in the same place alot the teeth may just be worn down to the point the starter drive will no longer engage correctly.

SLOPEMASTERWith the starter out take a flash light and look at the ring gear teeth if need be turn engine over with a wrench on the harmonic balancer bolt.good luck!
