Tire conversion from 8R19.5
Hi guys. I need two new steer tires because of side wall cracks, there small but there are a lot of them. The tires that are on it are 8R19.5 and I wanted to ask if I can use the 225/70R19.5 in there place. Thanks guys

The OEM steer tires on the Regal always seemed too narrow to me. When I had my Regal I ran Goodyear 245/70 steer tires. I could run them about 5 psi lower for the same weight rating and they rode better and stopped better than the 8R Bridgestones they replaced. Goodyear called for a slightly wider rim, but I had no problems for many miles.

They are almost exactly the same diameter, ie revolutions per mile

I agree with Steve's comments. I will add, you should not use 245/70 on the rear duallys. The OEM rims are not spaced well enough and you will have tires rubbing together. You can run 225/70 on the rear with no problem

We may switch to 245/70/19.5 on the front , next time we get tires . Currently , we have 225/70/19.5 tires all around. I've noticed that all of our newer Firetrucks have wider front tires than our older trucks and the newer ones seem to handle and ride better .

I now have 225/70/19.5 on my rears. On the Breakaway they work great. I no longer have the 545 transmission as I replaced it with a 2000. Since the tires a slightly smaller in diameter I now cruise at about 1800 rpm where before it was about 1700.

Well had two of these put on this weekend. Ironman Ironman I-109 Commercial Truck Tire 24570R19.5 136M. Ordered from amazon free two day shipping. When It was all said and done Had 500 total including balance and mounting. Put about 600 miles on them. I can say for sure the steering is better and they ride great. Happy so far we will see if they last. Thanks again for the knowledge.

Good to see it worked out. I was happy with the performance of 245s on the front when I ran them. (The OEM 8Rs always looked too narrow for the large coach they are under.)
