Brake failure: the adventure continues
After coping with a generator solenoid failure and my wife's car burning up, just 30 miles from home my Barth brakes started to fail. Every time I hit the brake pedal, the alarm would sound and the brakes gradually started to work less and less. I pulled over, shut the engine down and listened. No air leaks. I then took the brake fluid reservoir cover off only to find that the cover was very rusty and the fluid was the color of red wine. After chatting with Mwrench, I decided my fluid was old and waterlogged. I wire brushed all the rust from the cover, placed a rare earth magnet in the reservoir after I drained it, and bled each wheel and the master cylinders. The brakes now work great. I will take it to my mechanic this week to get the entire brake system checked. MAKE SURE YOU CHECK YOUR BRAKE FLUID AND CHANGE IT WHEN NEEDED. DONT GET YOURSELF IN MY SITUATION.
