Back up lights
Well, I'm back home with the new Barth and I glad to have this forum to seek help. I want to get the coach inspected (MA requirement), but can't get the back up lights to work. There are two in the tail light assembly and two more larger lights mounted on the rear bumper. It's not a burned out bulb as none work, plus I've checked all the bulbs. My barth is a 92 Regency with air shift on the Allison tranny. I checked the Gillig chassis manual, but the original owner ordered a different Allison from the standard one and the reverse switch is not where the manual says it is. Additionally, since I shift with a toggle switch, I don't know where to look for any of the sending units that would trigger the back up lights to go on. any help or advice would be appreciated.

Have you checked grounds?

Bill, Funny you should ask, in 12 volt systems, grounds are always the place to start. I spent several hours today following wires and ultimately it was a ground for two of the lights mounted on the bumper (big halogens). The actual back up lights in the tail light assembly were not getting power when in reverse, so I connected the power source from the halogens on the bumper. All is OK now. Thanks for the advice.

The transmission you have works off of oil psi. The engine must be running to check for reverse lights.

There is an oil psi sending unit located on the outside of the transmission. It has 2 wires. If you jump it out the reverse lights should come on. This sending unit screws into the side of the transmission.

Good luck.
