Odd Satellite Issue
I had a chance at a star party this past weekend to try out the newly-installed satellite dome. No joy.

Hooking up the laptop to the dish, I was able to confirm it was set for the right satellites, and that it would track and lock on properly.

Now, the receiver I got from my local dealer worked on the nech, and when I hooked it up at home for downloading and activation. In the coach, it had a mind of its own, and when I was able to get into the menu, it showed Tuner: Failed, and passes for the LNB. I took it to the dealer, and he tested it and another, and both showed the same thing. DirecTV tech support was helpful, and suggested that this newer model receiver (D12) wasn't as capable as the older D10; the tech rep also suspected the LNB switch on the dealer's dish we were using.

So on a whim, I decided to take the original receiver home and see if it worked. Perfect. I'll post more as I go through the troubleshooting; there's a KVH dealer not too far away, so I may have it checked out there.

Sometimes I think we're alone in the universe, and sometimes I think we're not.
In either case the idea is quite staggering.
