Water Heater Replacemente
I need to replace my Atwood GH6-4E... seems I can't get that except from a Manufacture's Official Dealer. Winnabago has 'em but they're $600 plus! Can I simply get the "Camping World" propane only one for $242 and take all my DSI stuff off my old one (newish Dinosaur etc.)and use it, or should I go with the "CW" Propane/DSI for $359? I'd just get a replacement tank, but the "housing is rusted out too.
Thanks, John

John, keep in mind that the “6H6” is a water heater with a “heat exchanger” which in our Barth world, call “MotorAid” water heating. This unit would have to be ordered special order, but is well worth the extra time and money as far as I’m concerned.
I got one years ago from http://www.camperschoice.com . I find they will bend over backwards to do the best that can be done for the customer.

A great place to buy is:

www.rvsurplussalvage.com

They have a very good selection right now.

Don't try to take parts off your old unit to put on a new one... it's propane gas ignition components you're talking about here! Makes a nice explosion!

Thanks, guys. But, I still can't find a water tank listed with the heat exchanger on it at either place. I'm wondering if they still are available? I guess I could cut the old one off and have it welded back on the new one. Is it really that helpful? The only contact is the two four inch long welds where the engine water tube is fastened to the tank.
Thanks again, John

From the number you cited, it should be like this (at Mark's):

Rvsurplussalvage has a number of water heaters on their site right now, including 2 heat exchanger units with DCI, both a 6 and 10 gallon unit.

While there's nothing wrong with my original 6 gallon unit, it's just 110 and heat exchanger, so I'm considering replacing it with the "3-way" set-up. Kind of expensive, $435.00, but it's DCI propane, 110, and heat exchanger. I measured and it will slide right in. I'd like the 10 gallon one but I'd have to do some shoe-horning work with a tin nibbler to fit it...

Want to buy my original unit? 6 gallon tank with heat exchanger... make me an offer!

Thanks all for your help. I checked around and Camping World had what I needed, albiet, no heat exchanger for a couple of hundred bucks less than any one else. I tried them on line and they added WA tax..... with all the other stuff I wanted about $50 bucks plus $8.50 shipping .. Irene's Grand Marquis gets 28-30 MPG omthe HWY. 40 minutes later we were in Wilsonville, OR. WOW! The new one is a lot nicer than my old one and if and when the tank dies,we'll get a new one from someone else. You guys are wonderful for all the info you gave me, THANKS!!!
Cheers, John
