Water Pump Woes
Put the new engine water pump in Saturday morning, and after tightening a hose clamp once more all is well there. Auto Zone waranteed the pump so the only cost was labor, clamps, antifreeze, a new belt, and a bottle of water wetter.
Working on the coach water system, I noticed that when the Shur-Flo kicks off, a drop of water comes out the bottom, looks like where the impeller housing attaches to the pump but I can't be sure till I drain the tank and unbolt the pump from the floor. Anybody had this problem? Is it fatal?
Glad I still have 4 weeks till Talledega. I've learned about waiting till the last minute to fix stuff. Red Face

Danny, If it's like the ShurFlo's I've used, it might be as simple as a little more torque on the pump-to-motor attachment screws.

Looking at it from the impeller end, the screw heads at the ten, two and six o'clock positions are long cap screws (2"+/-) that go into tapped holes in the end of the metal motor housing.

The twelve, four and eight o'clock positions are shorter cap screws, secured into the metal impeller housing via hex head nuts that recess into hex shaped pockets. (i.e.: can be drawn up without need for holding the nut in-place.

My slight dribble was cured by a 1/8th turn on all of them......

I tried the tightening method and it leaked worse!

So I tried taking it apart and 2 out of 3 cap screws snapped off.

Ordered from PPL in Texas on monday and new one arrived friday. 70 bucks and change shipping included. Saved about 16 bucks from local.

Instructions do say avoid elbows near pump, so I'll see of I have clearance to make the turn with flexible hose instead of the elbows from the old pump.

Not too worried, it worked for 20 years on the old one.
