I need some info re. anyone's knowledge and experience with Renault. Specifically class B MH w/4 cy 2.2 (I think)engine. ...guy says the starter stopped behaving, replaced solinoid and the trouble still existed. Anything re. Reault would be helpful. Thanx. Dick

I looked at several of these over the years. I liked the layouts, the compactness, the fuel mileage etc.... All of my favorable impressions of them were trashed once I drove them (one of the slowest vehicles I've ever driven) and then talked to owners and heard the reports of unreliability, high parts prices and many numerous mechanical issues. One of my clients (who is a diesel engine genious) bought one and he confirmed everything I suspected. Maybe one of the best things I ever saw, was where someone converted one of these to a FWD GM driveline....but then again, you had a lot of money in something that wasn't worth much....
thankgoodness, I never bought one.

My experience was with 60's Dauphins, cute, nice features and all but typically French auto. If other things were acceptable I could smell the roses with the lack of speed. Coming back I may need to pull a trailer ..???

I think the Dauphin had two horns onefor the city and one for the country so you could summon help near or far.
I had a friend though that made a bunch of money with one. He bought it for $25, someone backed into him causing $300 damage, he took the check. Later someone rear-ended him for another $300. He patched the radiator, drove it to the junk yard and got $25.

They did have some value that way. Actually, my brother had one, hauled his wife and two kids back and forth from NJ to PA and also pulled a little wooden speed boat at times. His worked alright.

As bad as the Renaults were, the Peugeot was at the opposite end of the spectrum; I had a '60 403, bought in '64. If you bought one new, there was one (and only one) option: Michelin blackwalls or Firestone white sidewalls. Trim was stainless steel. Sunroof was standard, ad was AM-FM radio.
