Putting my awning back on
I am in need of info. I removed my awning right after I bought this. I is about a 16ft and I now have no tension when I put it back on. When I took it off....well I like to have lost a hand....it unwound very quickly and was quite the scene of NOT what to do. Anyway , I have got it back up and need to know how I put the tension back in it....do I wind up the ends on both ends individually and do I do this closed or open. I really made a mistake taking it off at all. Thanks for any help !!!! until then....loose awning...lol

Gorman, Assuming the awning is a Zip Dee, the spring is in the rear end of the awning. Disconnect the lower arm with the awning extended all the way out but not raised up. Separate the lower arm where it slides apart. Wind the spring one full turn for each foot of length of the awning. I wound my 19ft a couple of extra turns.

Special note:

This step by step guide contains instructions for the A&E awning. Other brands are similar and all precautions apply.

There is considerable stored energy in the springs that can cause serious injury - if you are not completely sure of your abilities DO NOT attempt to repair the awning. Most RVawning repairs are best left to a competent RV technician!

Ditto, Bill NY. A friends neighbor, a surgeon, lost several fingers trying to tension a garage door spring. Take it to an rv repair place.

I put a Faulkner awning on mine and it was possible to wind the tension spring manually, with the aid of vise grips.

I found directions in the internet someplace.
