lake2riverAlternator belt diagram 1976 454?
A friend and I are working on the new baby. We need to replace the alternator belt (broken) but cannot find a diagram for it. Could someone help with an explanation or point us to an online diagram? Thank you!
P.S. Any tips would be great too!

What engine do you have?
Do you have a smog pump?
Can you measure the old belt, or is it too beat up? Do you have the number off the old belt?
Are the other belts in place?

Buy American. I like Gates, Gatorback or Dayco. NAPA has two lines. The top one is good.

lake2riverHello Bill,
Thanks for responding.
I have a 454.
No smog pump.
The old belt number was 75460. We replaced it at NAPA today.
All other belts are in place.

A Dayco 15460 crosses to a NAPA NBH257460. That is what I used on my 84 when I had to run without a smog pump. That is a 46 inch belt.
Anyway, I believe the alternator belt should go around the front groove of the crankshaft pulley, the front groove of the water pump pulley and the only groove of the alternator. I am speaking from memory here, as I haven't owned a 70s P30 for quite a while. The later ones had smog pumps and horizontal radiators.
Mine also has a little guard that keeps the lower run of the belt from flopping and hitting the radiator hose, but I am not sure if the older ones did. Anyway, check for sure. That thing will cause a little difficulty if not threaded right.
Hopefully, a member with a more similar coach will add some specific info here.
I like your paint. Those colors would be good in the desert.
