Temperature indicator for gen-set?

Temperature indicator for gen-set?
Is it possible to install a temp indicator on my genset? Anyone have any guage recommendations?

For trouble-shooting I have used a kitchen thermometer with a remote sender.

If I were going permanent, I would use a standard automotive temp gage with an electric sender in the engine cooling air outflow. It would read air temp as well as water temp, and would respond faster than oil temp.

I think a CHT ind would be best, but probably overkill.

Don't remember exactly, but JC Whitney sells them pretty reasonably, and you can use several senders with one gauge, selecting as you wish to monitor this or that temp.

Would a guage like this work?
Autometer's Autogauge, black instrument face with white readout, white needle and black bezel
100 - 280 degree Fahrenheit
3/8" and 1/2" NPT fittings
1/8" electric sender
Electrical sending unit

I think the top of the range might be a bit low - and that set is designed for liquid cooled engines. However, since air-cooled engines also use the oil for some cooling, an oil temperature gage might work.
As bill h mentioned, CHT is the best option here some.
