Turn signal problem
Hi all,
just heard back from the shop and the guy is saying he was unable to solve my LH turn signal problem. Both turn signals work find when the headlights are off but the LH signal stays on (no blinking)when the headlights are on. The RH signal works fine. He spent an hour or so and was unable to find a short. He is looking to put some replacement wires in which is going to be tough because that whole steering column area is really tight to get into. Could there be another cause of this problem?

thanks for any comments

You have voltage bleed over. It does not need a turn signal switch.

This can be caused by two wires rubbing together, a shorted out bulb, or a crossed wire in the trailer/car dolly tow plug.

What happens when you turn on your 4 way flashers? What happens when you step on the brakes? Lights on and lights off.

Try taking out one bulb at a time. Turn on your signals and check, reinstall each bulb before checking the next one. Only check the left side.

Go to the plug in the back and throw on your 4 ways with the headlights/markers lights off. I'll bet that 3 pins in the plug blink with a test light.

Bill,

Just to let you know, you were dead on. It turns out someone had installed a one element bulb which shorted out the two contacts in the tail light causing the problem. of couse the mechanic was looking for wiring problems! just proves that we should look at the easy cures first I guess.

thanks again

Your welcome, thank you for the follow up post. I like knowing when something works out or didn't. It helps others as well when there searching thru the archives for answers and a post is still "OPEN".
